COURSE
MANAGEMENT!
UNDERS T AN D Y OUR G AME
I like to play aggressive golf and take my fair amount of risk, but I don’t
act recklessly. Understanding what shots you can and can not pull off
will dramatically affect your score.
One shot I look to avoid, that will immediately help your scores, is
going after sucker pins. A sucker pin is any pin that is located near a
steep slope, close to a penalty area or a bunker.
Trying to hit shots close to these pins are high risk, high reward. Pulling
off a great shot will definitely give you an advantage over your playing
partners, but it also brings into play the potential for a BIG number. In
my opinion, the risk far outweighs the reward in those situations.
Do not be ashamed to aim elsewhere or even lay up if the hole design
asks for it. Many great players use this strategy to save par but most
importantly, avoid a big, round destroying number.
